Benjamin was only two weeks old when a breeder turned him over to a volunteer-run rescue orphanage called Bosley’s Place. According to the breeder, the dog was having trouble putting weight on his hind legs. A vet said soon after that the tiny Goldendoodle has a severe spinal deformity.

As he was so young, the staff had to bottle-feed him. He stayed with the orphanage until he was strong enough and able to eat solid food. Benjamin was then moved to a foster home.

Deformity

Beth Williams, the pup’s foster mom, worked every day with Benjamin to give him therapy. but after weeks of patiently helping the dog, she didn’t see any kind of improvement. it became apparent that he may never walk normally. The deformity was just too extensive.

The only recourse left was to get him a custom wheelchair.

Beth recognized that Benjamin was a gentle and loving dog that just wants to be happy. Despite his injury, he was always trying to have fun and make the most of his life. Even when he was hopping and dragging his back legs, he always had a smile on his face. He never really saw himself as being distinct from other dogs.

Especially when he is playing with his foster siblings.

Normal life

Beth hopes that with the wheelchair, the paralyzed puppy would have more semblance of a normal life. He could at least keep up with the other playful pups.

When he got his wheelchair, Benjamin absolutely adored using it. It was like new energy was poured into him. As he could only use it for short periods, he makes the most out of it. He is always on the move whenever it was wheelchair time.

The pup seemed to have found a lot of confidence in the independence that the contraption gave. He loves to go outside and move freely. It wasn’t just life-changing for the pooch, but for Beth as well. Benjamin has been a big inspiration for her and she loves that his optimism shadows any negativities that his disability may have brought.
