Today, we’re not featuring a dog who saved a human in distress. Instead, we’re featuring the opposite — a human saving a pooch in Glendale Canal.

Phoenix PD Officer Connor McCarthy was heading back to his department when he received news about a drowning dog named Hank. At the Glendale Canal, he saw the dog trying really hard to hand onto his life. And that was when Officer Connor, without hesitation, ran towards the drowning dog and jumped into the waters.

Other Glendale Firefighters immediately ran to the side of the canal to help Officer McCarthy lift the dog. Some of them even got a ladder in case they needed it.

Office McCarthy quickly swam toward the dog’s location and forcefully grabbed it. However, due to the dog’s panicking, it became difficult to hold the dog up. Hank was trying to resist the rescue at first; luckily, after seconds of realizing that he was about to be saved, the dog calmed down slightly.

Yet, there was another problem. How would the rescue team lift up the resisting dog?

It’s a little bit frustrating how they would save the poor dog. Plus, the fact that the dog resisted again and again, that he even tried to bite Officer McCarthy. So the other firefighters used a rope instead to pull up the dog. After many times of trying, they successfully lifted the dog up.

Firefighters who helped Officer Connor calmed Hank after the incident and gave him food and water. They then send Hank back to his family.

Officer McCarthy is, in fact, a dog lover also that’s why he quickly responded to the situation. Even knowing that the canal was 8 feet deep, he never hesitated to help at all.

May all the people live like Officer McCarthy, whose top priority is to save someone in need – whether it is human or animal.
