When Human Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C. received a report of an injured dog that needed urgent medical help, it didn’t matter if it was already late. Field officers quickly responded to the scene and found a puppy by the gutter. He lay on the mud completely motionless and people thought he was already dead.

The officers rushed the Pittie puppy to an emergency animal facility, where he received round-the-clock care. He was so emaciated and that he weighed 17 pounds, only about a third of what was supposed to be his healthy weight. He was so lethargic and weak and couldn’t even go to the bathroom all by himself.

Once his condition was stable, the puppy, now named Tig, continued to his foster home. Kim O’Keefe was the best foster mom he could have. She kept an eye on him for the first 24 hours and made sure he makes it through the first night.

It took about a week before Tig started to show great improvements. For the first few days, all he managed to do was to wag his tail. But once he added a little weight, he was able to stand on his own and walk a few feet without falling.

Eventually, the puppy was healthy enough to find his new home. Kim approached Megan Anastasio and told her about him. They set up a meet-and-greet and they just took to one another right away.

Tig adjusted to his new home pretty quickly. He loved the sudden change in his life. He did not just gain back his strength, he even found a new mom and dad and two dog siblings that adored him very much.

When the puppy first arrived at the HRA facility, he was fighting for his life. Neither his rescuers nor the vets believed he would pull through. But because of his really strong will to live, he survived.

Today, Tig is a happy, healthy, and bouncy dog that spends his days hiking, playing, going on walks, and cuddling with his canine brother and sister. He is grateful for all the help he received. He knows that without his rescuers, his foster mom, and his new family, he would not be the happy boy that he is now.
