A homeless German Shepherd named Elsa lived a difficult life on the streets of L.A. She probably had an owner before as evidenced by the embedded collar on her neck. But for some reason, she found herself struggling to survive on her own.

Eventually, the dog got hurt and no one knew how. She limped as she walked and she endured pain for so long because she had no one to look after her. But that was until Good Samaritans called for help and contacted Hope For Paws, the famous charitable group in the city.

Rescue partners Lisa Arturo and JoAnn Wiltz were the ones who took on the mission. They rushed to save Elsa, but they didn’t think they’d be able to save her on that same day. Because when they arrived at the rescue location, it was locked.

As it turned out, Elsa was in search of help when she stumbled upon an industrial yard. Unfortunately, people don’t always go there. Its premises were only accessible on specific days and she must have set foot inside a few days back when the gates were wide open.

Lisa lured the dog with food and tried to get it out through the hole in the fence. Unfortunately, the gap wasn’t big enough for the pup to fit through. Left with no other choice, the rescuers decided to wait the following day for the property manager to arrive. Meanwhile, they left food and water and promised the dog they’d be back.

The next morning, the rescuers arrived and Elsa was there, right behind the gate, waiting for them. She trusted their word and she was so happy to see them back. She knew they meant it when they said they’d get her out of there.

Elsa received medical attention as soon as they arrived at the hospital. She didn’t have a collar embedded on her neck but she suffered from wounds caused by one. She also had a broken paw, but neither of her injuries was serious. With proper medication and rest, she healed in no time.

In her foster home, Elsa started fresh. She thrived and she discovered the joy of being a dog. And in no time, she discovered how great it was to have her own home.
