Shelter dogs, while they live comfortably in well-kept facilities, face an uncertain future. Some of them may never experience the love of a family, as they may be put to sleep for practical reasons. This might sound cruel, but sometimes, it’s the only choice that a few rescue facilities have.

But a shelter pup named Gregory took a lucky turn. This was after he met his new friend named Joe Kirk. And the dog’s appreciation for his pal surely warmed the hearts of the netizens.

Gregory just got lucky

Gregory was being taken care of by a shelter named Franklin County Dog Shelter, which was located in Ohio. He was scheduled to be euthanized, but life had other plans for him — Joe came to pick the dog up and then bring him to safety.

Joe worked for an organization called HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary in Ohio. This was actually a special place for hound pooches that needed homes. When pups were rescued from shelters and other care facilities, they would receive a freedom ride to centers like HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary. At these places, dogs could live without fearing euthanasia until they were finally adopted.

Gregory might have gotten wind of it, so he was so thankful to Joe. He showed his gratitude by hugging the man as they made their way to the sanctuary.

What Joe had to say about it

Joe was utterly touched by Gregory’s gestures. At the same time, he sounded excited, as the dog got a new lease on life.

Joe shared a picture of Gregory cuddling him, even saying that this was the best freedom ride photograph ever. He explained that Gregory was one appreciative and thankful Beagle.

While Gregory had been saved from the doggy death row, he would still need to deal with heartworm. But once the veterinarian cleared him, he would be then available for adoption.
