When dogs lose a companion, do they grieve just like humans? Or are they incapable of feeling emotions? Studies suggest that, like us, dogs do feel emotions that we humans also feel. And Moose, a 3-year-old Labrador mix, proves just that.

Moose has spent most of his life with his owner. So when his owner was hospitalized one day, Moose was devastated. Worse still, Moose’s owner ended up passing in the hospital.

The poor dog was oblivious to what happened to his owner, and so, he spent his days waiting for him, staring at the window by his empty bedside. The scene broke the hearts of the hospital staff, and they captured the moment on camera, hoping someone will come forward to give the loyal dog another family that he can share his love with.

The photo of the loyal dog was posted on Facebook by Northstar Pet Rescue and Eleventh Hour Rescue. They hoped that the photo would help Moose find a loving family that can help him cope with his loss.

Ever since Moose’s photo was posted online, hundreds of families began to show interest in adopting the loyal dog. Adoption requests started to pile up, but they wanted to make sure Moose was going to a family who is deserving of his loyalty.

While in the rescue shelter, Moose did okay with other dogs, but it is clear that he especially loves people. It would be difficult to resist such a sweet and loving dog, and it didn’t take long before Moose finally found a loving family who will love him for the rest of his life.

Nobody knows if dogs actually grieve like humans when they lose a companion as they cannot communicate their feelings verbally. However, what is sure is that the death of a close companion affects them on a personal level.

According to the American Kennel Club, dogs are highly intuitive and sensitive than most people give them credit for. They can become lethargic and distasteful of everyday things that they usually love. But with a loving family to support them, they will surely be back to their old selves in no time.
