Now that wintertime is here, we should keep a closer eye on our doggos whenever we are outdoors. If our pups manage to run away from us, that would be disastrous, as staying outside during winter is pretty dangerous. But even if they don’t get too far, frozen bodies of water can also be a big cause for concern during this season.
If you type in the right keywords on Youtube’s search bar, you will see plenty of videos of puppers being rescued from frozen ponds and lakes, and among them is the video of the Golden Retriever below.
Fortunately for the owners of these puppers, they were able to call for help right away. But what if their humans were unaware that their pooch fell into a frigid body of water?
In the news clip below, we can see Watson, the golden retriever, being rescued by a member of the South Metro Fire Rescue in Centennial, Colorado. The pup’s dog dad shared in an interview that they were outside walking near the pond so that Watson could get some exercise.
We can see in the video that only half of the pond was frozen, so there were geese floating around on the far side of the pond. Unfortunately, Watson spotted the birds and charged towards them. The energetic furball ran on the frozen part of the pond, but he didn’t get too far.
Watson stepped on thin ice and fell into the frigid water. The pup’s dad called 911 immediately, and not long after, the rescuers were on the scene. The firefighter crawled on the ice when he made his way to the pooch so that he wouldn’t fall in. When the rescuer reached the poor pooch, Watson paddled his way towards the firefighter as if he knew this man was there to rescue him.
