Mini, an awesome Dachshund-Chihuahua mix, was about 10 years old when she arrived at San Francisco’s Family Dogs Rescue. She was only supposed to weigh 8 pounds, but she weighed in at a staggering 18 pounds. She was unquestionably twice her normal size and weight.

Kay, her foster mother, took her home and promised to help her adjust to her new life. She kept a careful eye on Mini at all times. Because she knew Mini wouldn’t be able to use her hind legs, she kept her out of trouble and kept her from doing anything that could cause harm to her.

Because of her age and weight, the dog was unable to walk about freely. She literally dragged herself from one location to the next. Despite her difficulties, she proved to be a quirky and hilarious dog.

Mini seemed to act like she was a five-year-old girl. She liked to hide under the sheets and poke her head out when her foster mother called her. She did a lot of wacky things, and she certainly provided a lot of entertainment to her mother.

Mini tried to climb the stairs one day, and Kay had to stop her. She stopped Mini in her path, yet the dog persisted. While Mini wasn’t entirely successful with what she was doing, she was able to take two steps forward, which convinced her foster mother that she was capable of more than just dragging herself.

The dog prospered, thanks to physical therapy, a well-balanced diet, and great care. She lost weight and was soon able to walk again. She stopped dragging her lower half and began walking normally like any other dog.

Mini is now unstoppable. She walks every day, climbs the stairs without falling, and plays with her foster dog siblings. She’s a fighter who’s ready to start a new chapter in her life.

Mini, like any other dog, deserves to be adopted. She needs additional attention and desires to discover that particular someone who will shower her with love for the rest of her life.
