Injured dogs need a friend they can lean on aside from their owner. Befriending another animal can boost their morale, making the healing process more bearable for them. That is the reason why some people foster multiple dogs at once.

There was a woman named Brianna who fostered a puppy named Opal. The tiny dog had a gruesome injury that left its jaws unhinged. The injury required extensive surgery to fix. After the surgery, the dog needed a lot of time to recover, and Brianna’s home was a perfect place for Opal to do that.

Opal met another dog named Duke, and the two of them immediately bonded. However, they could never directly touch each other because Opal had to be in a separate space while she healed. They were only allowed to look at each other while separated by a barricade.

Despite the limitations, Duke and Opal still interacted as often as possible. When Brianna could no longer watch the two dogs being in such a state of inconvenience, she came up with a solution. She allowed them to be in the same room, but she was there too, just in case Opal needed help.

Fortunately, the two dogs never engaged in rough physical play. Instead, all they did was cuddle and smell each other. The only problem was that Duke tried to remove the brace holding Opal’s jaw. When that happened, Brianna was quick to stop him.

Eventually, Brianna received permission from the veterinarian to remove the brace on Opal’s mouth. The dog was completely healed and was ready to do anything that any dog could do. On the same day, Brianna bought toys for Opal to celebrate her recovery.

Opal ended up becoming a permanent part of Brianna’s family. The woman knew there was no other place that would be perfect for the little dog. After all, she had already formed a strong bond with Duke, so separating them would not be ideal.
