The people of Ireland love President Michael Higgins and consider him their national treasure. Aside from being the most admired leader with great and fair leadership, one trait that people adore about him is his love for dogs.

Wherever he goes, whether in a meeting of the states or with high-ranking personalities, President Higgins always has a dog beside him. If you search for his name on the internet, you won’t have to look far before you can find his dogs.

The dogs who have been with the President for a long time are Brod and Sioda. Brod means pride, while the female Sioda means silk. And recently, Misneach, which translates to courage became the newest furry friend of President Higgins. They are Bernese Mountain Dogs, and the President considers them his true friends with a special place in his heart.

When Prince William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, visited Ireland, Brod and Sioda were part of the welcoming party. They were also present when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited in 2018. The royal couples could not help but pay attention to Brod and Sioda as they are both friendly and adorable.

Whenever President Higgins gives a speech, one of his dogs is usually seen beside him. This trait is his trademark and is rarely seen in other country leaders. And recently, Misneach, the newest dog in the family, went viral online. He nibbled at the President’s hand while the latter gave a TV interview.

Some of the people who watched the video could not help but notice the seven-month-old pup. The video reached over 3M views and received good comments from different people. One of the comments mentioned that Misneach’s actions showed that he loves the President, and he is loved and well-taken cared for in return.
