All dogs deserve to celebrate their birthdays. Birthdays are a reminder of one of the happiest moments of one’s life. However, not all dogs get to celebrate their birthdays. Among these dogs are those living at animal shelters. Most of the time, the birthday of dogs in this place are unknown. The reason for this is they are not traceable.

But in 2018, several animal shelters agreed that all dogs at animal shelters should celebrate their birthdays every first day of August. This idea started at the North Shore Animal League America. This shelter is the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption center.

Since the shelter caters to so many rescue dogs, they thought to make the dogs feel special even for a day. So, every first day of August, the celebration kicks in for the dogs. The shelter shoulders all the cost for the celebration that includes giving the dogs the food they like to eat. This undertaking became successful, so many animal shelters across the country followed suit.

For most animal shelters, this is a welcome development because they get to let the dogs feel valuable. In a statement, North Shore Animal League America explained that dogs need to know that they are unique, too. This is why the celebration of birthdays is necessary for them to hold every year. It may be costly, but it is for the betterment of the dogs.

According to the organization, this day is an opportunity to make these dogs feel happy while waiting for their potential families. At the same time, this gives the dogs hope for better treatment in their new environments.

This year will be a challenging celebration due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The organization has not released any updates about the celebration yet, but they assured that they would hold the event.
