Paul has been racing up until the very last day that greyhound racing was considered legal in Florida. The exhausting activity took a toll on Paul’s body, making him lose most of his fur and weight.

Paul’s human mom, Elizabeth Hasier, recalled that Paul looked so overwhelmed when she brought him home. Paul has never seen stairs in his whole life, that he refused to consider going upstairs.

Elizabeth knew that Paul needed to get accustomed to going up and down the stairs because they have to use one to get to the apartment unit, so she helped Paul by taking it one paw at a time. Paul’s human dad, Holden, shared that Paul was so scared that he even had to help him get on the couch when he arrived.

Elizabeth said that Paul had no idea what he was supposed to be doing all day. Paul was anxious and did not know how to relax because he was used to not doing anything except to race in his whole life.

Paul was also surprised because he was allowed to sit and just relax all day. Elizabeth recalled that Paul did not even understand how to play with other dogs when she and Holden brought him to the dog park.

Fortunately, Paul eventually learned that the people he was with now are his family and that no one will hurt him anymore. Elizabeth shared that Paul started wagging his tail after a couple of weeks whenever he sees her and Holden.

Elizabeth said that Paul is a very gentle yet determined dog, and his determination to get over the things that scare him helped him be a happier and carefree pooch. Paul started to love getting pets, snuggles, cuddles, and he got more confident on his walks outside with each passing week.
