Lee Asher and her girlfriend Sydney Ferbrache live with their nine dogs. They spend a lot of time on the road and when they are home, they use their free time to foster dogs. It’s something they both love doing and it only makes sense that they help homeless animals find homes.
When the lovely couple visited Sacramento SPCA, they met CeCe and Pearly. They loved them right from the start. And so, without a second thought, they agreed to foster the dogs.
CeCe was 14 years old at that time. She once had a family but she was never allowed inside their home. She spent her life inside a crate, and once she was old, they surrendered her to the shelter.
Pearly, meanwhile, is a terrified Chihuahua. Like CeCe, she never stepped foot outdoors. She was locked up in a cage and then ended up at the shelter. She was so used to being confined in a tight space that she refused to leave her kennel.
The couple had a scheduled trip in a week. They thought they could bring their fosters out of state and get them adopted while on the road but they were wrong. Because they didn’t own CeCe and Pearly, they had to bring them back to the shelter.
Lee and Sydney felt bad knowing that they couldn’t bring the dogs with them. But they made sure to make the best out of the one-week period they had them. They treated them no differently than they would their own dogs.
Days quickly passed by and it was time for the couple to return the dogs to the shelter for adoption. Lee cried a lot but he had no other choice. They drove back to the shelter but there was no one there except for the workers and volunteers.
Lee and Sydney stayed for three hours at the shelter but no adopter showed up. At that moment, they realized no one came because CeCe and Pearly already found their home. The dogs were part of their pack already; they just had to sign the papers to make it official.
It was a pretty crazy decision, the couple agreed. But adding two more dogs into their pack was the best thing to do.
