Have you heard of the term “neighborhood watch”? It’s a program organized by residents living in a neighborhood. The goal of which is to discourage crooks from committing crimes, particularly burglaries.

The reason why we explained that a bit is because the Karasuyama neighborhood in Tokyo recently launched a neighborhood watch with a twist. What makes the program unique (and adorable!) is the fact that the ones doing the watch are not humans. Instead, they hired cute dogs and trained them to keep the streets safe for everyone. They are dubbed “Wan-Wan Patrol”.

The real-life Paw Patrol

Yurika Igarashi, a twelve-year-old, counts on seeing fluffy toy poodle Sakura whenever school would end. She’s scared to go home by herself, but whenever she would see Sakura, she would feel safe. She feels like she has her own personal bodyguard with her whenever the toy poodle would join her on her walk home.

Sakura is but one of the 150 dogs who were enlisted by their owners to be part of Wan-Wan Patrol. Their task is to do a neighborhood watch whenever they would go on their daily walks. They keep a close eye on the world around them and watch out for any suspicious movement.

The residents of Karasuyama can easily identify members of the Wan-Wan Patrol because of the scarves that they wear. Once they see these cute dogs, they’re assured that they’re safe from crooks that could be lurking nearby. In a way, the presence of these fur balls make their surroundings less prone to any criminal act.

Safe spaces

Aside from crimes, the Wan-Wan Patrol also does a swell job at protecting children from accidents. They alert them whenever they sense danger nearby. They’re also quick to assist whenever there are children that have been separated from their parents.
