In Miami, Florida, the Peterson family kept four dogs in their home. Cedar, the four-month-old German shepherd, is the youngest. And one day in May 2017, someone stole Cedar while on the family’s property.

The Petersons attempted to find the dog in the area. They also posted his photo online, and hired a private investigator, but to no avail. It created chaos for the entire family and even their other pets felt the dog’s absence. Without any information about their dog, they had accepted that they would never see Cedar again.

In rural Colorado in April 2019, Deputy Marshall Steve Ryan discovered a hungry dog in a snowy ditch and it had an injured leg. The cop scooped up the dog and took him to the veterinarian. There, they discovered that he had a microchip that told them that he belonged to the Petersons.

The police called the Petersons in Miami and told them about Cedar. The family was astonished that Cedar made it to Colorado! But they were thrilled to learn that the dog they believed they would never see again was still alive.

Cedar spent three weeks recuperating in a Colorado clinic. To return him to Miami, a charity group named Wings for Rescue promised to provide him with a free flight.

Wings for Rescue is an animal rescue organization that transports animals in peril from disaster zones and dogs from overcrowded shelters. They offered to fly Cedar and 35 other rescued dogs from the same shelter.

The Petersons were ecstatic upon reuniting with Cedar. Almost two years had passed since the dog was stolen. Now, their pet is getting better every day. When Cedar has fully recovered, they intend to take him to a dog beach for a swim.

The rescuers of Cedar claimed that microchipping pets could result in a miracle similar to Cedar’s.
