Danny was a volunteer at the local shelter, A Safefurr Place. Whenever he drove home from work, he would pass a truck stop and notice JJ, a Pitbull, wandering around.

Meeting JJ

Danny would stop and try to comfort JJ as much as he could. Unfortunately, it was evident that JJ was terrified of humans and just wanted to be left alone. The rescuer knew that JJ wouldn’t survive for long without proper care so he knew he had to do his best to rescue the poor dog.

Every day for the next five months, Danny would visit JJ and give him a treat. He hoped to capture the dog’s trust with the help of delicious cheeseburgers.

JJ would gladly accept the food but would immediately back away afterward. Danny felt that JJ must have gone through a traumatizing experience to be so afraid of humans.

Despite the challenge, Danny came back to the truck stop and set up a trap near a smaller fenced area. Surprisingly, JJ walked right up to Danny and ate the food out of his hand.

While JJ enjoyed his treat, Danny carefully yet swiftly put a leash around the dog’s neck. Danny was relieved when he saw that JJ was calm. He then took the pup to the local shelter to get physically examined.

Forever home

Fortunately, the vet discovered that JJ was a healthy pup despite not having a proper home for months. When Danny found out, he wasted no time in finding the perfect foster family for JJ.

Kristi was one of Danny’s friends that also loved taking care of shelter dogs. She also had another dog that was very friendly which could help JJ become more relaxed.

It didn’t take long before JJ blossomed into a more playful yet affectionate dog. He finally had the love, care, and family he truly deserved.
