The Australian bushfire destroyed vast lands, leaving millions of animals displaced and without a home. Agreeably, it’s a tragic event that caused our hearts to shatter. But in the middle of all of this, hope for a brighter tomorrow is still there.

In Wairewa, also known as Lake Forsyth, in Australia, a lot of residential and commercial properties got destroyed. Among those who lost their houses was the Zagami family. They managed to flee before the fire caught their home. But when they returned, all that’s left were the ashes of their once beloved abode.

Matt Zagami, the head of the household, admits how devastating the tragedy was. They lost their home and everything in it. And they lost their farm, too, their family’s primary source of income.

While the members of the family assessed the damages, OJ, their Golden retriever, found something very dear to his heart. Despite the raging fire that burnt their home, he discovered that his favorite stuffed toy survived and endured the blaze. As they reunited, the adorable pooch couldn’t be any happier.

OJ, along with his human family, returned to his home in Wairewa. Amongst the rubble, he found the one precious thing no one thought would be seen again. He found his favorite plush toy.

Besides OJ’s teddy bear, his mom’s wedding dress also survived the wildfire. But while the Zagami family feels gratified for these tiny silver linings, they couldn’t deny that recovering from the calamity won’t be an easy process.

The wildfire destroyed eleven residential properties in the town of Wairewa. Fortunately, though, everyone evacuated ahead of time, so no lives were lost, and no one was seriously injured. Right now, the entire community is coming together, cleaning up, recovering, and supporting each other for a new start.

OJ’s reunion with his stuffed friend may not seem significant to others. But it’s a good reminder that comfort goes a long way, no matter how little it is.
