If you have heard of Howl-O-Ween, then you know how much fun it is. This is the annual event being held by Pet Matchmaker Rescue to raise funds for their shelter. Based in Bakersfield, California, this animal rescue group solely relies on donations, so they thought of raising funds through a Halloween event back in 2015.

They’ve done the event every year, where people can come in their costumes, play games, and win prizes. Sort of like a carnival, but Halloween-themed, and the proceeds are used to help dogs and other animals. However, this year, holding an event like this is impossible due to the coronavirus.

But the rescue group’s director, Morgan Sokolow, is not one to give up easily. So, they thought of a unique way to hold Howl-O-Ween this year. Instead of a carnival-style event, they turned it into a drive-in cinema event. This way, families can be safe while enjoying the event.

Morgan explained that those who wanted to participate just needs to register on their website and pay five dollars once they come to the event. They need to bring their own blankets because it will be cold and a couple of chairs if they don’t want to sit on the ground.

They will be served food and beverages while the movies are being played. The first movie is going to be a PG-13 movie, and the second one will be a much scarier film for adults. Due to the pandemic crisis, those who want to come should wear masks until they are seated at their spot, and they need to practice social distancing.

Morgan shared that this event not only benefits her shelter, but it also helps families, especially those with children, to get a semblance of normalcy. Many kids have decided to skip on trick-or-treating this year, but for those living in and around Bakersfield, this might just save Halloween this year.
