No one knows how Snowflake, a Pit Bull/Shar-Pei mix puppy, ended up near a dumpster in Bakersfield, California. What was learned later on is that someone found her and tried to sell her online for $10. No one wanted to buy the five-week-old pup, and the person who found her dumped the tiny pooch on someone’s front porch.

The homeowner was surprised to see the wet and shivering puppy outside her door. So she took the pup inside and immediately called Amanda Brooks, the adoption coordinator for an animal rescue group called Marley’s Mutts. That same day, Amanda dropped by the caller’s home and took the pup. Their fast action saved the puppy’s life.

Too young

Snowflake was still too young to be separated from her mother. She still needed the care, nourishment, and warmth that her mom provides. When Amanda brought her to a vet, she was told that the small pooch was dehydrated, undernourished, and had a dangerously low temperature. If she wasn’t treated right away, she would perish.

The young pup was put under intensive care and given fluids, a special highly nutrient formula, and a warm and comfortable place to rest. She responded well to her treatment and was soon packing in weight.

Getting ready for a new home

As Snowflake was growing and becoming healthier, it was also essential that she learns how to be a puppy. To do this, they introduced her to one of their residents, an adult dog named Massie. The patient pooch was a great source of knowledge and skills for the puppy. They spent countless hours together.

When Snowflake turned 10 weeks old, the rescue group placed her up for adoption. She has gone far from the fragile puppy that she was before. She is turning out to be a very fine pup who would make a great pet for somebody.
