A little mixed-breed dog named Baby Girl has found a permanent home two weeks after her owner left her,  tied her to a fire hydrant in Wisconsin, and abandoned her there.

Baby Girl’s journey to her new home began when she was found tied to a fire hydrant, and a bag was also left beside her containing her favorite toys, food, and a note from her previous owner. The note said that the owner was a homeless woman and was dealing with medical issues. She was unable to provide Baby Girl with a secure and loving home, so she tied the dog to a fire hydrant in a crowded area to ensure that she would be found. Additionally, the woman claimed that she had made numerous attempts to surrender the dog to many shelters, including visiting households in an attempt to find it a new home.

The woman’s method was successful. Kylie Engelhardt, a resident of Green Bay quickly saw Baby Girl, called the police, and waited with the puzzled dog until authorities arrived. The responding police officer took Baby Girl to the Wisconsin Humane Society, a shelter, where her story went viral on social media and earned international attention.

The animal shelter characterized Baby Girl as a diabetic dog. In addition, they disclosed that her new owner will be responsible for her continued care.

The dog responded positively to the therapies administered by the animal shelter. Adopters would need to consult with a veterinarian to develop a treatment plan, which would likely entail frequent glucose tests, a nutritious diet, and insulin injections. This can be a pricey endeavor, and the new owner should be prepared.

Thankfully, these problems did not deter people, as the humane society was inundated with calls and letters about the cute dog. The dog quickly found a new forever home.
