People are always amazed and delighted when they learn about Benny, the first dog in the world that can ice skate. They become even more in awe of the dog when they see him in action.
Before becoming famous, Benny spent a long time at a Utah kill shelter. Someone adopted him, but the next day they returned him to the shelter. He was then placed on the euthanasia list, but a Las Vegas animal rescue group saved him in time.
Cheryl Del Sangro, a retired professional skater, knew she wanted Benny as soon as she saw his image on the shelter’s website. Only she and her husband Flory submitted an adoption application for him. She could not comprehend why nobody wanted him.
Cheryl and Flory immediately recognized Benny’s intelligence and vigor, so they started his training. The trainer was surprised with how quickly he picked up new commands and maneuvers.
Rick Viernandt, Cheryl’s friend and a professional dog photographer, proposed taking Benny to the ice rink to cheer on the Vegas Golden Knights. Benny was permitted to carry a hockey stick as he jogged while Cheryl skated. Rick recorded a video and uploaded it on the Internet. It immediately gained a large audience.
Benny was inspired to learn how to ice skate by Cheryl. She put together doggie boots and little blades to make him his own skates. Because it was his first time skating, she anticipated that he would only take a few steps. Benny, however, went off immediately on his skates, which shocked Cheryl.
Benny immediately enjoyed ice skating. As he spent more of his time on the ice, he grew stronger and faster. He learned skating techniques such as crossovers and hurdle jumps.
Soon after, he received invitations to sporting, figure skating, and ice dance events. He had the opportunity to pose for photographs with prominent people. Additionally, he attended charitable activities organized by non-profit organizations.
When the lockdown began, Benny was unable to skate. For six straight months, he was just confined to his home. Cheryl had to think of different ways to keep him in shape because he was so bored. She coached him in physical activity, balance, and swimming.
When the skating rinks reopened, Benny was so ecstatic. He got his skate bag and dashed to the car. As soon as they found themselves at the rink, he was eager to begin. He was in his favorite environment with his favorite person, and nothing could have been more ideal.
